Vibrant Health Advocates - Beacon runs almost entirely on the commitment of local people who believe that carers in Hawick deserve better than invisibility. Whether you have time to volunteer, the means to donate, or simply a voice and a willingness to tell people we exist, your involvement makes a direct difference to the carers we serve. We are a small organisation doing substantial work, and every contribution — of whatever kind — is genuinely felt.
There is no minimum commitment, no complicated process, and no wrong way to help. If you are wondering whether what you have to offer is enough, it is. The carer who found us because a friend mentioned us at the school gate, the volunteer who makes tea and listens without judgement, the donor whose standing order funds three hours of outreach each month — each of them makes this work possible. We would be glad to hear from you.
Outreach work in the Borders countryside
You don't need a formal background in care or health to make a meaningful contribution to this work. You just need to care about the people doing it.
We are always looking for warm, patient people to join our support team — whether as group facilitators, outreach companions, or someone to make tea and listen without judgement. Full training is provided, and our volunteers consistently tell us this is the most meaningful thing they do each week.
Your donation keeps our services completely free at the point of need for every carer who contacts us, regardless of their financial situation. Even a modest regular gift enables us to plan with confidence and maintain the continuity of support that carers depend on.
Many carers do not know we exist until someone tells them about us — and by the time they find us, they are often already close to breaking point. If you work in health, social care, faith communities or anywhere you meet people who might be caring for someone with dementia, a leaflet or a conversation could change a life.
